I have an older one I got free when I bought my MacBook because 1) I am a college student and 2) I am a K-12 teacher, and either of those qualified me for the free iPod Touch. I wanted to mention that at least on the version I have, the calendar syncs fine, but my color-coding doesn't work. I have a different color for home/school and work, and I also have different colors for each of my kids and my husband. And the colors are all different on the iPod Touch. I read up on it, and it appears to be bug. Not sure if it will happen in your version or not. The way you get it to sync your calendar is through iTunes.

I agree with Kristen. I have an iPod touch that I am completely hooked to. The funny thing is, I don't use it for music as much as I did previous iPods I had. The calendar function on the Touch is phenomenal. If you have seen the computer I bring to class every day, the black MacBook on the table, my Touch syncs calendars with iCal on my computer. The Touch is more of a palm pilot to me than an iPod.
And you may want to tell Kristen that going on the internet is free with an iPod Touch. If there is WiFi you need only to be able to crack the password if one protects access. The iPhone charges for internet use on its network because you can go on the internet anywhere. But the touch does not have access to AT&T's network, so if you can find WiFi, internet on the Touch is not only free, but pretty darn sweet too.

Since you already have the iPod Nano, I'm not surprised that the subliminal messages that are hidden in the music have convinced you to spend your well earned $ on a Mac Laptop.
(That's my conspiracy theory, anyway.) As you can guess, I'm not sold on the over-hyped, over-priced Macintoshness from Apple.
Just talking dollars and cents, if you can save $300 and still get the $1,100 Mac for $800, with a free iPod Touch, then go for it! If you don't need the iTouch, sell it for an additional rebate. Plus, a lot of the software you will use will come already installed on the Mac, saving you more money. Most of the software that comes bundled with a Windows laptop is what will cause you most of your grief. That's why I build my own, with a clean install of the Windows Operating System. However, you can get Microsoft Office for $60 as a college student:
Outside of the money issue (which is usually the real issue) and the brainwashing issue (where is my tinfoil hat?) the biggest benefit of getting a Mac is the intuitiveness of the software. As a tech geek, I don't need intuitiveness. I can deal with the Windows software world. However, there are certain people who need computer software that is intuitive. Since they would call me when their Windows PC software wasn't being intuitive enough, I would much rather that those people get a Mac so we both can enjoy the intuitiveness of the software on it. I even have an example of the first time I was impressed. My friend bought a Mac desktop computer for his home. His wife can sit down in front of it and actually use it. His iTouch can connect to his Mac desktop and control iTunes through the wireless network at his house and play songs from iTunes on his home stereo in the family room. Not only can his wife use it to play music from his extensive library, but his mother figured out how to do the same thing. To me, that is very much intuitiveness!
There is a huge debate about the Windows PC / Mac computer choice with many differences of opinion. As for my tech geek self, I can build a desktop PC and wrangle a laptop until it does what I want it to do. I know how to maintain both. Not everybody has the time, mindset, or knowledge to learn how to do this. Especially a college student. Although I'm sure any college would be teaming with young tech geek students who would be happy to help you with your laptop, PC or Mac, for hours on end.

Losing the computer is a big deal. I know that I am online as much as most people are glued to the tv. Every now and then a break from the computer is nice and welcome, but a prolonged separation would be unhappy.
I got the Mac mainly because I didn't want to worry about getting a virus. I do like the Mac, but it is like learning a new language. So many things are different from my pc. I also miss some of the programs that I had on the pc. Once I am fully acclamated, I think I will be as happy with one as the other.

(MET: depending on how old, should be easy to find one on eBay – there are also lots of Mac refurb/used places that generally sell used ipods … don't forget if you're planning on buying a new Mac between now & September (and you're in school or a teacher), Apple will give you a free iPod Touch (or Nano) after rebate … (the ipod touch is the much better deal BTW).

Do you get the latest iPod touch 4g free when you buy a mac?
Mac unit sales growth during the first three quarters of FY 2010 was marvelously consistent at 33% each quarter, with percentage revenue gains trailing just a bit below those numbers.
Consequently, any unit sales estimates for the September quarter below 4.06 million units suggests a slowing in the pace of unit sales versus the first nine months of the fiscal year. In the September quarter last year Apple sold 3.053 million Macs.
Interesting to note in looking at the estimates, 15 of the 31 analysts polled estimate unit sales growth of 25% or more (3.816 million units or above). A sixteenth analyst is on the cusp.
As suggested in the column, the back-to-school selling season (and the popular buy a Mac, get a free iPod touch student promotion) will be a factor in the quarter's results.
But there's another factor to consider: In addition to the July refresh of the Apple iMac, Apple also updated the Mac Pro line that hadn't seen a change in available chip architecture since early March 2009. While I don't expect the new Mac Pros to make their presence known in Apple's performance in the September quarter through a significant impact on Mac unit sales, I'm expecting the new Mac Pros to provide at least a slight benefit to overall Mac revenue for the quarter along with a benefit to the peripherals and other hardware line from the sales of accompanying monitors and some benefit to software revenue from the sales of Apple's pro-level products.
One of the factors that has made the iMac so wildly successful is its power compared to the price. Professional content creators and prosumers often had their computing needs satisfied by the newer iMacs in ways that in years past could only be met by the Mac Pro line.
But for creative pros and commercial houses that need expandability and workstation class computing power, the Mac Pro is still the best option. Nearly eighteen months is a long time to wait for a serious step up in computing power and I suspect there was some pent-up demand for the new Mac Pro line.

Since you already have the iPod Nano, I'm not surprised that the subliminal messages that are hidden in the music have convinced you to spend your well earned $ on a Mac Laptop.
(That's my conspiracy theory, anyway.) As you can guess, I'm not sold on the over-hyped, over-priced Macintoshness from Apple.
Just talking dollars and cents, if you can save $300 and still get the $1,100 Mac for $800, with a free iPod Touch, then go for it! If you don't need the iTouch, sell it for an additional rebate. Plus, a lot of the software you will use will come already installed on the Mac, saving you more money. Most of the software that comes bundled with a Windows laptop is what will cause you most of your grief. That's why I build my own, with a clean install of the Windows Operating System. However, you can get Microsoft Office for $60 as a college student:
Outside of the money issue (which is usually the real issue) and the brainwashing issue (where is my tinfoil hat?) the biggest benefit of getting a Mac is the intuitiveness of the software. As a tech geek, I don't need intuitiveness. I can deal with the Windows software world. However, there are certain people who need computer software that is intuitive. Since they would call me when their Windows PC software wasn't being intuitive enough, I would much rather that those people get a Mac so we both can enjoy the intuitiveness of the software on it. I even have an example of the first time I was impressed. My friend bought a Mac desktop computer for his home. His wife can sit down in front of it and actually use it. His iTouch can connect to his Mac desktop and control iTunes through the wireless network at his house and play songs from iTunes on his home stereo in the family room. Not only can his wife use it to play music from his extensive library, but his mother figured out how to do the same thing. To me, that is very much intuitiveness!
There is a huge debate about the Windows PC / Mac computer choice with many differences of opinion. As for my tech geek self, I can build a desktop PC and wrangle a laptop until it does what I want it to do. I know how to maintain both. Not everybody has the time, mindset, or knowledge to learn how to do this. Especially a college student. Although I'm sure any college would be teaming with young tech geek students who would be happy to help you with your laptop, PC or Mac, for hours on end.

Losing the computer is a big deal. I know that I am online as much as most people are glued to the tv. Every now and then a break from the computer is nice and welcome, but a prolonged separation would be unhappy.
I got the Mac mainly because I didn't want to worry about getting a virus. I do like the Mac, but it is like learning a new language. So many things are different from my pc. I also miss some of the programs that I had on the pc. Once I am fully acclamated, I think I will be as happy with one as the other.
Any chance that you or the hubby have an affiliation with a college as faculty or staff? Or anyone taking college classes? You can get a education discount, plus a free iPod Touch, and free printer until Oct. 15 or so.
I love my MacBook, but it's expensive. I only convinced Brent to get it for me because I got a student promotion with it and it came witha free iPod touch that he loves. However, Brent has a super cheap Acer laptop purchased at BestBuy for like $399, which he uses in conjuction with a desktop that he built. Uh, yeah we actually have 3 computers for 2 people, but dude is a software engineer.

Centrino2? Well if it's the next gen of mobile Intel processors, I don't think it's going to make your laptop very cheap. In fact, even the 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo brings it up to 900ish. I think you should get it now; besides, it's a great time to get a laptop because there are “back to school” stuff. Think about Apple, they're offering a free iPod Touch if you buy a Mac with a student ID. Since iPod Touch costs 299, in essence you're saving 300 dollars, and since you also get 100 dollars off a new printer, add those together and a mid range MacBook will technically cost you 900 dollars. That's with a 2.4GHz Core 2 duo and a 160 GB HD and stuff. Plus a printer and an iPod Touch. Pretty cool ^_^ plus you can install Windows on a MacBook. On my MacBook Pro, I took my old Dell Windows XP CD and installed Windows
and it works! ^_^. Anyways, if you're going to get a laptop, I suggest get it now. There's no point waiting, because technology will continue to update. After Centrino2, the next one's probably going to come out soon too. And Centrino2 is at least a few months if not a year.

I love my MacBook, but it's expensive. I only convinced Brent to get it for me because I got a student promotion with it and it came witha free iPod touch that he loves. However, Brent has a super cheap Acer laptop purchased at BestBuy for like $399, which he uses in conjuction with a desktop that he built. I feel your pain. Since leaving my job, I have been in some similar circumstances. I already have a contract on a smart phone though and I am impressed with your willpower to give that up. I have an Android with T-Mobile though and it is *only* about $85/month. I was more than happy to give up my work Blackberry. Android phones and iPhones are just SO much more user-friendly and functional.
On the computer, I just bought myself a mac. Apple is running a promotion right now where you get something like $100 off and a free iPod Touch if you're buying your computer for school. This is crazy outside of the box for me because I have always been so against Steve Jobs proprietary strategy. In fact, I even bought a Sony Vaio at first, but when I got it home and it was riddled with crap promotional software and I immediately started having trouble with the wireless, I gave in and bought the Mac because I knew it would at least work. I'm still getting used to all the new Excel shortcuts, but if you're already used to using one, I can't see switching back. This thing is just so user-friendly.

Q4 will not include Xmas sales since this is based on Apple's reporting year, not the calendar year. Also, App Store revenues will not have much of an impact if any on earning since they make up such a small piece of the pie. Remember back to school sales include a free ipod touch which will bring down margins slightly as well.

Centrino2? Well if it's the next gen of mobile Intel processors, I don't think it's going to make your laptop very cheap. In fact, even the 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo brings it up to 900ish. I think you should get it now; besides, it's a great time to get a laptop because there are “back to school” stuff. Think about Apple, they're offering a free iPod Touch if you buy a Mac with a student ID. Since iPod Touch costs 299, in essence you're saving 300 dollars, and since you also get 100 dollars off a new printer, add those together and a mid range MacBook will technically cost you 900 dollars. That's with a 2.4GHz Core 2 duo and a 160 GB HD and stuff. Plus a printer and an iPod Touch. Pretty cool ^_^ plus you can install Windows on a MacBook. On my MacBook Pro, I took my old Dell Windows XP CD and installed Windows
and it works! ^_^. Anyways, if you're going to get a laptop, I suggest get it now. There's no point waiting, because technology will continue to update. After Centrino2, the next one's probably going to come out soon too. And Centrino2 is at least a few months if not a year.

Q4 will not include Xmas sales since this is based on Apple's reporting year, not the calendar year. Also, App Store revenues will not have much of an impact if any on earning since they make up such a small piece of the pie. Remember back to school sales include a free ipod touch which will bring down margins slightly as well.

got my 2.4Ghz Dou 250gb 2 gigs of ram white macbook for 900 dollars with a free ipod touch a few months back. I dont see the premium there. I had a dell running vista and it was awful. I switched and love it. My dell laptop that ran like garbage for most of its life and btw wasn't self inflicted. I reinstalled windows ever 6 months it seemed like… terrible! mac OS is what makes the mac great and to get the same speed on a PC as on a mac you need more processing power which costs more anyways…. But i love my Xbox360!

I feel your pain. Since leaving my job, I have been in some similar circumstances. I already have a contract on a smart phone though and I am impressed with your willpower to give that up. I have an Android with T-Mobile though and it is *only* about $85/month. I was more than happy to give up my work Blackberry. Android phones and iPhones are just SO much more user-friendly and functional.
On the computer, I just bought myself a mac. Apple is running a promotion right now where you get something like $100 off and a free iPod Touch if you're buying your computer for school. This is crazy outside of the box for me because I have always been so against Steve Jobs proprietary strategy. In fact, I even bought a Sony Vaio at first, but when I got it home and it was riddled with crap promotional software and I immediately started having trouble with the wireless, I gave in and bought the Mac because I knew it would at least work. I'm still getting used to all the new Excel shortcuts, but if you're already used to using one, I can't see switching back. This thing is just so user-friendly.
That's my two cents.

Outside of the money issue (which is usually the real issue) and the brainwashing issue (where is my tinfoil hat?) the biggest benefit of getting a Mac is the intuitiveness of the software. As a tech geek, I don't need intuitiveness. I can deal with the Windows software world. However, there are certain people who need computer software that is intuitive. Since they would call me when their Windows PC software wasn't being intuitive enough, I would much rather that those people get a Mac so we both can enjoy the intuitiveness of the software on it. I even have an example of the first time I was impressed. My friend bought a Mac desktop computer for his home. His wife can sit down in front of it and actually use it. His iTouch can connect to his Mac desktop and control iTunes through the wireless network at his house and play songs from iTunes on his home stereo in the family room. Not only can his wife use it to play music from his extensive library, but his mother figured out how to do the same thing. To me, that is very much intuitiveness!
There is a huge debate about the Windows PC / Mac computer choice with many differences of opinion. As for my tech geek self, I can build a desktop PC and wrangle a laptop until it does what I want it to do. I know how to maintain both. Not everybody has the time, mindset, or knowledge to learn how to do this. Especially a college student. Although I'm sure any college would be teaming with young tech geek students who would be happy to help you with your laptop, PC or Mac, for hours on end.

Since you are into photography, blogging, and doing all kinds of web projects, it might just be your cup of tea! It took a while for me to get comfortable with OS X, but you will quickly realize how much quicker and efficient OS X is compared to Vista or XP. The included applications are pretty good (iLife.) I think you will really like iPhoto to organize your digital pictures. And you will definitely use iMovie as well to put together movies or slideshows. The good news is that if you ever want some form of Windows installed on it, it's pretty easy to do – with the included Boot Camp software, or third party software (Parallels or VMWare Fusion for about $50.) As far as your 365 project goes, iWeb will definitely get you going! There are built-in templates in iWeb that are geared for photos and galleries – perfect for what I'm thinking you are trying to accomplish.
You just missed the Amazon promo from a few weeks ago…where you could get a free iPod Touch with the purchase of any MacBook Pro, and obviously tax free. You can still get the free iPod with the MacBook Pro thru the Apple Store, but you will have to pay tax. I hope you get a MacBook Pro or an iMac, that way I can geek out on my blog knowing that somebody actually understands what I'm talking about! Nobody I know owns a Mac!

MacBook Pro! I was never big on Apple until last year. After getting my first MacBook, and now upgrading to the MacBook Pro, I haven't looked back. Since you are into photography, blogging, and doing all kinds of web projects, it might just be your cup of tea! It took a while for me to get comfortable with OS X, but you will quickly realize how much quicker and efficient OS X is compared to Vista or XP. The included applications are pretty good (iLife.) I think you will really like iPhoto to organize your digital pictures. And you will definitely use iMovie as well to put together movies or slideshows. The good news is that if you ever want some form of Windows installed on it, it's pretty easy to do – with the included Boot Camp software, or third party software (Parallels or VMWare Fusion for about $50.) As far as your 365 project goes, iWeb will definitely get you going! There are built-in templates in iWeb that are geared for photos and galleries – perfect for what I'm thinking you are trying to accomplish.
You just missed the Amazon promo from a few weeks ago…where you could get a free iPod Touch with the purchase of any MacBook Pro, and obviously tax free. You can still get the free iPod with the MacBook Pro thru the Apple Store, but you will have to pay tax. I agree with Kristen. I have an iPod touch that I am completely hooked to. The funny thing is, I don't use it for music as much as I did previous iPods I had. The calendar function on the Touch is phenomenal. If you have seen the computer I bring to class every day, the black MacBook on the table, my Touch syncs calendars with iCal on my computer. The Touch is more of a palm pilot to me than an iPod.
And you may want to tell Kristen that going on the internet is free with an iPod Touch. If there is WiFi you need only to be able to crack the password if one protects access. The iPhone charges for internet use on its network because you can go on the internet anywhere. But the touch does not have access to AT&T's network, so if you can find WiFi, internet on the Touch is not only free, but pretty darn sweet too.
Well it isn't a phone.
But there is a free calls app; voip or viop can't remember.
And a free text app called TextFree.
What lucky students! The learning possibilities with the touch are out of this world. I handed my students the iPad today and they took to it like a duck to water. They were so in their element and having a great time manipulating words, practicing math, and looking at constellations they didn't want to leave when the bell rang.

I think you should get it now; besides, it's a great time to get a laptop because there are “back to school” stuff. Think about Apple, they're offering a free iPod Touch if you buy a Mac with a student ID. Since iPod Touch costs 299, in essence you're saving 300 dollars, and since you also get 100 dollars off a new printer, add those together and a mid range MacBook will technically cost you 900 dollars. That's with a 2.4GHz Core 2 duo and a 160 GB HD and stuff. Plus a printer and an iPod Touch. Pretty cool ^_^ plus you can install Windows on a MacBook. On my MacBook Pro, I took my old Dell Windows XP CD and installed Windows
and it works! ^_^. Anyways, if you're going to get a laptop, I suggest get it now. There's no point waiting, because technology will continue to update. After Centrino2, the next one's probably going to come out soon too. And Centrino2 is at least a few months if not a year.

(MET: depending on how old, should be easy to find one on eBay – there are also lots of Mac refurb/used places that generally sell used ipods … don't forget if you're planning on buying a new Mac between now & September (and you're in school or a teacher), Apple will give you a free iPod Touch (or Nano) after rebate … (the ipod touch is the much better deal BTW).

Centrino2? Well if it's the next gen of mobile Intel processors, I don't think it's going to make your laptop very cheap. In fact, even the 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo brings it up to 900ish. I think you should get it now; besides, it's a great time to get a laptop because there are “back to school” stuff. Think about Apple, they're offering a free iPod Touch if you buy a Mac with a student ID. Since iPod Touch costs 299, in essence you're saving 300 dollars, and since you also get 100 dollars off a new printer, add those together and a mid range MacBook will technically cost you 900 dollars. That's with a 2.4GHz Core 2 duo and a 160 GB HD and stuff. Plus a printer and an iPod Touch. Pretty cool ^_^ plus you can install Windows on a MacBook. On my MacBook Pro, I took my old Dell Windows XP CD and installed Windows
and it works! ^_^. Anyways, if you're going to get a laptop, I suggest get it now. There's no point waiting, because technology will continue to update. After Centrino2, the next one's probably going to come out soon too. And Centrino2 is at least a few months if not a year.

Losing the computer is a big deal. I know that I am online as much as most people are glued to the tv. Every now and then a break from the computer is nice and welcome, but a prolonged separation would be unhappy.
I got the Mac mainly because I didn't want to worry about getting a virus. I do like the Mac, but it is like learning a new language. So many things are different from my pc. I also miss some of the programs that I had on the pc. Once I am fully acclamated, I think I will be as happy with one as the other.

Personally, I have never owned anything from apple. I am seriously wanting to get a new macbook and am weighing my choices of getting a free ipod touch with the back-to-school offer they are offering now. The only thing is that I have the feeling that the new macbooks will be released soon and it may be worth getting one instead. I wouldn't get the ipod touch though. I love my MacBook, but it's expensive. I only convinced Brent to get it for me because I got a student promotion with it and it came witha free iPod touch that he loves. However, Brent has a super cheap Acer laptop purchased at BestBuy for like $399, which he uses in conjuction with a desktop that he built. Uh, yeah we actually have 3 computers for 2 people, but dude is a software engineer.

I agree with Kristen. I have an iPod touch that I am completely hooked to. The funny thing is, I don't use it for music as much as I did previous iPods I had. The calendar function on the Touch is phenomenal. If you have seen the computer I bring to class every day, the black MacBook on the table, my Touch syncs calendars with iCal on my computer. The Touch is more of a palm pilot to me than an iPod.
And you may want to tell Kristen that going on the internet is free with an iPod Touch. If there is WiFi you need only to be able to crack the password if one protects access. The iPhone charges for internet use on its network because you can go on the internet anywhere. But the touch does not have access to AT&T's network, so if you can find WiFi, internet on the Touch is not only free, but pretty darn sweet too.

Will it really? Let's review the facts. The iPod Touch was a runaway success before its latest incarnation. With the addition of FaceTime, Game Center, the Retina display and a serviceable camera, its sales are going to explode. And it has no, I repeat no, competition. Why is that important? I'll get back to that in a second.
The iPhone is selling as fast as it can be made.
The iPad is selling as fast as it can be made. And it has no competition.
Has anyone noticed the multiple reports indicating that the iPad is eating into PC sales while actually enhancing Mac sales? Pay attention people. This is heady stuff.
So what does it all mean? Everybody knows about Apple's “ecosystem”. It started with the symbiotic relationship between iPods and iTunes. But take a look at the four different types of hardware sales, above, and add in iTunes, the App Store, FaceTime, Game Center and even Apples' new ability to transfer data from device to device via AirPlay. I agree with Kristen. I have an iPod touch that I am completely hooked to. The funny thing is, I don't use it for music as much as I did previous iPods I had. The calendar function on the Touch is phenomenal. If you have seen the computer I bring to class every day, the black MacBook on the table, my Touch syncs calendars with iCal on my computer. The Touch is more of a palm pilot to me than an iPod.
And you may want to tell Kristen that going on the internet is free with an iPod Touch. If there is WiFi you need only to be able to crack the password if one protects access. The iPhone charges for internet use on its network because you can go on the internet anywhere. But the touch does not have access to AT&T's network, so if you can find WiFi, internet on the Touch is not only free, but pretty darn sweet too.
